The above results are estimate generation scheduling for a year. There is a need for breakdown
of diesel genset maintenance scheduling. Spinning reserve is another factor
needed to also factor-in in this breakdown.

The table above are generation schedules for the given monthly loads. There are some months where the
load demand is met only by supplying from Renewable sources. However, for the unmet load demand,
it is then supplied by diesel generators.
CODE BREAKDOWN
- Load Input
The total average load for each month is specified in MWh and is then further divided by 720 to ensure the load is converted for hourly generation scheduling. The months are also specified.
2. Generation Sites and Capacity
All generation sites for the main island are specified and include all the different solar farms across the island with wind farms and diesel generators. The rated capacity for each site is also included.
3. Environmental Factors
Environmental factors such as sun light duration is given in hours while the wind speeds are also added in m/s.
4. Priority
In order to prioritse renewable energy over the diesel generators, the priority section of the code assigns the priority to the different sources of energy with solar first, then wind and diesel last.
5. Tabulate data
The site names, type of energy source, and the capacities of each site are stores as a table with a priority number given to each row of data. The table is sorted as per the priority list.
6. Maintenance Schedule
This section of code randomises the required maintenance duration in months from 1 to 4 months for each site and this is displayed for each site.
7. Monthly Scheduling and Load allocation
Monthly schedule is created by allocating values for each site as per the different months with sites under maintenance having their capacities set to zero. Additionally, the environmental factos from adjusts the production of the different sites.
8. Summary
The average energy produced from each site on a daily basis will now be displayed for each site for each month along with the total average energy produced for a day for the different months.
DISCUSSION and REMARKS
The purpose of the model is to create a power generation schedule for the main island of Tonga, Nuku'alofa. The generation schedule will specifically be the average power generation on daily basis for each month. The generation scheduling model so far is able to take user input such as the monthly average load which can be extracted from the forecasting models, and environmental factors such as wind speed and sun light hours to better mimic the performance of the wind turbines and solar farms respectively. The model is able to schedule the maintenance of each site for a random duration and is able to display the generation schedule for each site.
To improve the model, the following changes will be made in the near future or once the required details are provided by the Tonga Power Limited;
- include user input for sudden faults in any site and produce a schedule based on this change.
- break down the diesel generator production based on the individual generators.
- provide accurate maintenance duration and schedule.
